Contracts
A valid contract between WCH and each affiliating nursing program is
required for all undergraduate and graduate nursing student placement.
The School of Nursing is responsible for contacting WCH to begin the
affiliation agreement and contract process. Executive Nursing Leadership
approves all affiliation agreements.

Please include the type of program, accreditations held and the reason for
the request. A member of the Nursing Professional Development team will
respond within one week to begin the process.
Clinical Group Placement Process
Clinical site placements are determined by working directly with the WCH

Student uniforms: Students should wear their school
uniforms and school ID badges for all clinicals. The only exception is
when a department requires students to change into specific scrubs for
that area, such as Surgery or OB.
Preceptor Placement Process
1. Submit the Preceptor Request
All pre-license preceptor requests for each semester must be submitted at
least four weeks before the semester begins. Students must work through
their school to secure a preceptor assignment at WCH.

2. WCH Provides Available Assignments
WCH will provide preceptor assignments two weeks before the earliest
precepting start date. The information will include the department and
shift.
3. The School Assigns the Student
The school will assign the appropriate student and provide the student’s
name to WCH, along with the required health attestation.

4. WCH Confirms the Preceptor
Once WCH verifies that the appropriate health attestation has been
provided, the preceptor’s name and contact information will be given to
the school.
If there are concerns with an assignment, the student should work through
the school for resolution.
Student uniforms: Students should wear their school

Instructor/Faculty Hiring and Orientation

New Instructor General Orientation, including orientation for WCH
employees serving as instructors, must be completed before the
instructor’s start date. It is required for all new instructors and
instructors who have had an interruption in assignments greater than one
year.

Important Information for WCH Employees
WCH employees working as clinical instructors must complete the
applicable instructor orientation requirements. When functioning in an
instructor capacity, employees should never wear or use
their WCH employee badge or employee ID number. They must use their
instructor badge and instructor ID only. A separate computer login will
also be provided for instructor use.
Annual Requirements for Returning Instructors
Returning instructors/faculty must complete the following requirements
annually to maintain a current instructor status.

Please note: Nursing instructors who visit precepting
students at WCH are considered visitors and do not need to complete WCH
instructor orientation.
Student/Faculty Health Requirements and Demographic Data
The school is responsible for determining whether each instructor and
student meets the prerequisite health requirements. Schools may use the
Health Attestation Form to submit instructor and student records.

Submission deadline: Health requirements must be
submitted at least two weeks before the clinical rotation begins. If
student names or health requirements have not been submitted within
that timeframe, the clinical placement will no longer be granted to the
requesting school.
Glucose Meter Requirements for Students

Before using a glucometer at WCH, the student must receive education
from their instructor, perform a return demonstration and pass a
written test provided by WCH. The written test must be graded by the
nursing instructor from the school.

No student will receive a WCH ID Badge. Only
instructors receive WCH ID badges. Students must wear their school
uniform and school ID badge at all times unless they are in an area
where scrubs are provided.
