New Nursing Faculty

First Time to Wood County Hospital?

New clinical instructors/faculty, including WCH employees, teaching at WCH with a clinical group of nursing students must complete several orientation requirements before they begin.

New Instructor Requirements

  • Complete the Instructor Intake Form
  • Complete online modules and documentation
  • Schedule and attend live glucose training and Cerner computer training
  • Ensure the school provides WCH with your health record before live training
  • Obtain a WCH instructor badge during live training with Nursing Education
  • Complete a minimum of four hours of unit-based shadowing/orientation
  • Review the Nursing Student Orientation page so you are familiar with the content provided to students

Important Information for WCH Employees

WCH employees working as clinical instructors must complete the applicable instructor orientation requirements. When functioning in an instructor capacity, employees should never wear or use their WCH employee badge or employee ID number. They must use their instructor badge and instructor ID only. They should also never log in to a computer as an employee. A separate login will be provided for instructor use.

Live Glucose and Cerner Training

The school must provide WCH with the instructor’s health record before live training. A computer account must also be created through the WCH Information Systems department before training.

Print, complete and send the Instructor Attestation Form to student.nurse@woodcountyhospital.org .

New Instructor Clinical Unit Orientation

Contact Julie Shank in Nursing Education at shankj@woodcountyhospital.org to schedule a minimum of four hours of shadowing on each clinical unit where you will be teaching.

You are welcome to spend additional time as needed and supported by your school. Please plan to meet with the Unit Director or Supervisor to discuss unit standards, routines and expectations. Clinical instructors will orient students to the unit and hospital, so it is important to become familiar and comfortable with the environment.

After completing unit shadow orientation with a staff RN, complete and send the Instructor Orientation Summary .

Student Clinical Documentation

Student Clinical Documentation is required for each clinical group. Please include the instructor’s name, student names and clinical dates with the Clinical Tracking Log .

Specific areas have been designated for patients and visitors to increase their convenience. Please park in the designated student areas at WCH shown on the map. All students should enter through the Emergency Department entrance only.
