July 2026 WOW Award Winners - Kara S. and Hannah O.

The WOW Patient Experience Initiative recognizes team members who engage with patients/families, visitors and employees in exceptional ways, providing a superior level of commitment and reflecting the values of Wood County Hospital. Kara S. and Hannah O., RNs in the Emergency Department, were selected as the July WOW Award winners for going above and beyond to support their colleagues.


A pregnant patient arrived in the Emergency Department in active labor. Kara and Hannah quickly transported the patient to the OB unit, where it soon became apparent that delivery would occur before the OB physician could arrive. The two nurses stayed to assist the OB team during the delivery, which happened quickly and involved a stressful shoulder dystocia.

Kara and Hannah’s compassionate care for the patients, the newborn and their follow-up OB nurses was deeply appreciated. Their willingness to step in, work together and provide exceptional care during an urgent situation exemplifies the spirit of the WOW Award.

Hannah has been part of the Wood County Hospital team for four years. She began her career at WCH as a clinical nursing technician in the Acute Care Unit while attending nursing school. During her final term, she completed her Emergency Department preceptorship, and after graduating, she joined the ED full-time. She has now served as an ED RN for three years.

Hannah was drawn to Wood County Hospital because of its close-knit community atmosphere. She wanted to begin her nursing career somewhere patients could recognize a familiar face and where she could make meaningful connections with both patients and coworkers.

She works hard to be a team player, support her coworkers when needed and make everyone feel included.

Born at Wood County Hospital herself, she was raised in Pemberville, Ohio, and is a graduate of Eastwood High School. She earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from Owens Community College, where she also participated in collegiate sports. She is currently continuing her education at Owens as she works toward her BSN.

Outside of work, Hannah coaches three sports: high school soccer, middle school basketball and high school softball. She also enjoys spending time with her friends, family and dog, Maisy.

Kara has been with Wood County Hospital for one year. She was drawn to WCH because of its people and welcoming environment.

Kara brings a positive attitude to work each day and values being a dependable team player.

Originally from Carey, Ohio, Kara earned her nursing degree from Firelands Regional Medical Center School of Nursing. She later earned her BSN from Chamberlain College of Nursing and is currently finishing her MSN at Chamberlain.

In her free time, Kara enjoys reading, rock tumbling and spending time with her family. A fun fact: Kara has also served in the Army for 22 years.
