August 2025 WOW Award Winner - Amber G.
The WOW Patient Experience Initiative recognizes team members who engage with patients/families, visitors and employees in exceptional ways, providing a superior level of commitment and reflecting the values of Wood County Hospital. Amber G., Healthcare Program Coordinator, was selected as the August WOW award winner for going above and beyond.
While assisting a coworker this past June, Amber went above and beyond to help a patient in need. The patient shared that his refrigerator had suddenly stopped working overnight, resulting in the loss of all his food. With a limited income and no access to the internet, he felt overwhelmed about how to replace it. Amber immediately stepped in to help. She searched Facebook Marketplace and quickly found a refrigerator nearby in Deshler for just $100. The patient was relieved to know he could afford it, and with Amber’s help, he was able to pick it up the very next day. Amber’s quick thinking and compassion turned what could have been a stressful, discouraging situation into one of relief and support.
The coworker who nominated Amber shared how grateful they were for her willingness to jump in and lend a hand, noting that her actions showed the true spirit of teamwork and care at WCH. Amber not only helped solve a problem but also showed kindness that made a meaningful difference in the life of a patient.
Amber has been a dedicated member of the WCH team for 10 years. She grew up in Risingsun, where she still resides and attended Herzing University to study insurance billing and coding. Over the years, Amber has served in several roles, including Med/Surg Aide, OPS School Aide, PCT/Secretary on Med/Surg, and a secretary in Pain Management. In 2022, she rejoined the Med/Surg team before moving into her current role as Healthcare Program Coordinator in Quality, where she enjoys seeing the hospital from many different perspectives.
Thank you, Amber, for your compassion, positivity and commitment to helping others. You are a true example of the strength of the WCH team.
