PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support

The PALS provider course is designed for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the management of respiratory and/or cardiovascular emergencies and cadiopulmonary arrest in pediatric patients.  Instruction and active participation in skill stations and simulated cases are used to enhance the recognition of and intervention for respiratory emergencies, shock, and cardiopulmonary arrest. Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:

  • Perform high-qualitiy CPR/BLS for infants and children
  • Recognize the difference between patients who do and do not require immediate intervention
  • Recognition of cardiopulmonary arrest early and begin CPR within 10 seconds
  • Team dynamics
  • Know the difference between respiratory distress and failure
  • Early interventions for respiratory distress and failure
  • The difference between compensated and decompensated (hypotensive) shock
