November WOW Award Winner - Eric M., RN

The WOW Patient Experience Initiative recognizes team members who engage with patients/families, visitors and employees in exceptional ways, providing a superior level of commitment and reflecting the values of Wood County Hospital. Eric M., RN - PACU, was selected as the November WOW award winner for going above and beyond.

On Halloween, a patient arrived in OPS for a surgical procedure carrying a bag she jokingly referred to as her trick-or-treat bag. After the procedure, while the patient was in PACU under monitoring, Eric organized a lighthearted activity to lift her spirits. He retrieved the patient’s bag from under the bed and, with the help of his coworkers, engaged her in a simple trick or treat activity, offering small treats such as graham crackers, dietary products and sugar-free candies appropriate for her diabetic needs. This thoughtful gesture had a meaningful impact, brightening an otherwise stressful day. The patient was so appreciative that she personally called the office later to commend the care and kindness she received. Eric’s actions reflect his commitment to compassionate patient-centered care and his genuine concern for the people he serves. Eric has been a member of the WCH team for eight years and was drawn to WCH because of its family-like work environment. In addition to working in PACU, he has also worked on 2 West. As part of the care team, he stays positive by working to make everyone’s day a little better whenever he can, sharing, “You never know how a simple, friendly word could impact someone’s day.” He understands that small moments of kindness can make a lasting difference.

Eric lives near Findlay with his wife, sons and dog Larry. Outside of work, he spends much of his time attending his children’s sporting events and keeping up with their busy schedules.

Thank you, Eric, for your thoughtfulness and for going the extra mile for patients.
