Advanced CT Technology Brings Fast, More Precise Imaging to WCH
Wood County Hospital recently purchased a new CT scanner, the uCT ATLAS Astound by United Imaging, through the support of the Wood County Hospital Foundation.
CT scans are commonly required when a more detailed view of the body is needed to diagnose or monitor medical conditions. These scans help providers evaluate internal injuries, tumors, blood clots, infections and diseases that affect the brain, lungs, heart and other organs.
The new uCT ATLAS combines high-resolution imaging, reduced radiation and faster scan times to support more precise diagnostics and a more efficient patient experience.
This scanner also supports fluoroscopy, an added feature that allows radiologists to view real-time images during certain procedures. This is especially helpful for biopsies and other interventional procedures. By combining CT imaging with real-time guidance, physicians can work with greater precision and improve patient safety.
In addition, the new scanner enhances existing services while positioning the department to expand into advanced exams in the future, with some offerings potentially introduced as early as fall 2026. One example is CT Coronary Angiograms, a minimally invasive test that evaluates blood flow and blockages in the heart. These scans create detailed, three dimensional images and help identify signs of heart disease without more invasive procedures. Improved speed and efficiency allow more of these exams to be performed, expanding access for patients.
This investment strengthens Wood County Hospital’s commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care.
