Emergency Department Registered Nurse Korie P. Recognized with WOW Award for Exceptional Patient Care
The WOW Patient Experience Initiative recognizes team members who engage with patients/families, visitors and employees in exceptional ways, providing a superior level of commitment and reflecting the values of Wood County Hospital. Korie P., RN - ER, was selected as the August WOW award winner for going above and beyond.
On July 3rd, Korie was caring for a 3-year-old boy who got hurt while playing with friends waiting for the fireworks, resulting in a trip to the ER. For any child, the emergency room can be a scary place, so our team works hard to make the visit less intimidating by offering stickers and activity packs. But Korie didn't stop there—she went the extra mile. Along with the usual goodies, she gave the boy a popsicle and treated him to a special trip to an area of the hospital where he could still see the fireworks. Thanks to Korie's thoughtful care, the boy and his family still got to experience the fireworks, even during an unexpected trip to the hospital.
The boy's parents were impressed by the kindness and effort Korie put into ensuring they didn't miss out on their holiday celebration despite the circumstances.
Korie has been a registered nurse for 32 years. She has worked at Wood County Hospital for a total of over eight years, returning recently after previously serving for seven years. When asked what brought her back, Korie said, "The small, family-like atmosphere was a big reason for my return." Korie's approach to spreading positivity is simple yet impactful: "Each day is a new day and a new chance to make someone else's day special." Her commitment to patient care and her outlook make her a valuable part of the WCH team.
In her personal life, Korie enjoys spending time with her three daughters and her new grandson. Outside of the hospital, you might be surprised to learn that Korie isn't fond of large crowds or public speaking despite being such a friendly and welcoming presence at work!
We are proud to have Korie on our team and grateful for the dedication she shows to her patients, coworkers and the community.
